Saturday April 1st Crown Green Bowling Fun Morning

From Captain Jill -

I would like to thank all that turned out last Saturday for our April Fools fun day - an excellent day was had by all, and I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to Peter for organising everything. The final went to the wire between Janice M (formally Vilamoura), Roy and Gerald, where all three only needed one point to take the trophy. Pressure got to all of them but easy come, easy go, Gerald won through to take the spoils after completing 25 ends. Congratulations and well done Gerald!!

Thursday 6th April - visit to Nova Cortica cork factory near São Bras de Alportel.

A group of around 20 members enjoyed a visit to a cork factory. I thought a  cork was, well, a cork! But not so.

INTERCLUB FINALS - BALAIA LADIES PAIRS VICTORIOUS!!

From our Club Captain :

You're all aware that Balaia had two teams through to the Bowls Algarve Interclub Finals.  A first ever for the club and I am so proud of you all that we got this far.

The triples match took place on Tuesday with Peter King, Jan and Jean against a strong team from Alvor.  Balaia took them to the wire and forced a sudden death play off, which was a great achievement in itself, but narrowly missed walking away with the silverware.  However, it was a brilliant match to watch and I'm sure an agonising one to play, but well done to you all.

The Ladies Pairs was played on Wednesday, with Lynn and Jan against Rene and Evelyn from Albufeira Cats.  Again this was a brilliant match, with fantastic Bowls being played by both teams.  This time Balaia walked away with the spoils, and this is our first of, hopefully many more to come, Bowls silverware now that we've shown what we're made of.
I have to admit we deserved to win!!  Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

Well done to all involved, I'm very proud of you, and a big thank you to our members who went along to support them.

SUNDAY FUNDAY 12th FEBRUARY

Luckily, the deluges of Saturday were replaced by fairly civilised weather on Sunday, although most members were still well wrapped up against a cold wind.  Red and white outfit was the order of the day
Peter and Miriam Hare kindly sent in a set of pictures which you can see here.  As you can see some of the bowling was a bit wild.  Not really, the bowlers were having to use their left hands!!!!!!!!  AAAHHH

Then it was a case of sending the woods first and trying to put the jack in the woods most beneficial to your team.  Also taking the jack away and replacing it with a coin, so having to bowl to the coin, (If you could see it!!!).

HOTSHOTS!

Lynn and Janet below left, with their certificate gained when scoring a maximum 8 in one end of a pairs match in November.
